Intro

MTE vs Rockstar ® Energy: Is MTE the Yoko of Energy Drinks?

We’re all looking for ways to be less tired, more focused and more motivated. And the energy drink market knows that, which is why there are literally hundreds of energy-boosting products out there. But what’s the difference between this one or that one?

Rockstar® is a name you’ll hear often, if you ask people what their go-to canned energy drink is. MTE, definitely not as often, especially since it’s a powder energy mix and not a canned drink. Are they different? Are they even for the same person? Is one better than the other?

Let’s find out!

How it Works

How Does Rockstar ® Give You an Energy Boost vs MTE?

As with most mainstream energy drinks, Rockstar® and MTE play in different genres when it comes to how they give you that perked-up, zoned-in feeling you’re craving. Rockstar® stimulates your central nervous system and blocks the chemical signals that make you feel tired. The sugar is used for energy production and the caffeine spikes your CNS’s signals to be awake, alert and active.

MTE’s greens work differently. Instead of jamming a GET IT TOGETHER signal directly into your bloodstream, adaptogens and nootropics block tired chemicals while supporting the promotion of mood and energy chemicals. Since it doesn’t rely on caffeine and sugar, the central nervous system stimulation is gentler, more sustained, and doesn’t cause a chemical stress response.

Benefits

What’s the Payout on MTE Greens vs Rockstar ® Energy Drinks?

So, what do these companies claim to offer consumers? MTE’s herbal mix of adaptogens, nootropics and superfoods supports vital and neuronal systems to promote:

  • Increased energy
  • Zoned-in focus
  • Improved stress resilience
  • Better mood
  • Improved recovery
  • Bolstered immunity
  • Lowered inflammation
  • Gut health

Meant as a daily habit and not a one-off, these benefits can accumulate over time as the adaptogens and nootropics help hack your body back into a homeostasis. It’s biologically teaching a man to fish so he has resources to eat for life, as opposed to just giving him a fish so he can eat that day. Typical energy drinks are the latter, in this analogy.

Speaking of, Rockstar®’s claimed benefits are different, and definitely effective at getting you to wake the f*ck up, like, immediately upon drinking one:

  • Increased energy
  • Improved focus
  • Better athletic performance
  • Increased alertness
  • Better concentration
  • Reduced fatigue

Meant as an in-the-moment solution to feeling dragged and foggy, when you reach for a can of Rockstar®, you can bet you’ll feel less tired – at least for a little while. Why? The ingredients Rockstar® relies on are different than those that MTE does.

Ingredients

Songs on the Album: Rockstar ® & MTE’s Main Ingredients

The energy-boosting ingredients in Rockstar® vs MTE are why these two products are so different. Well, that and the fact that one’s a carbonated sugary drink and the other is a healthy energy drink powder. But that’s neither here nor there.

Rockstar®’s main ingredients include:

Caffeine

Caffeine is a stimulant that keeps you awake and alert by blocking the main neurotransmitter that tells your body – hey – let’s rest. By blocking this chemical, caffeine promotes higher levels of energy-mobilizing chemicals, triggering a sort of pseudo-stress response. This makes you awake and alert, and allows you to better focus, but it’s also the reason caffeine causes heart rate irregularities, raises your blood pressure, and may cause indicators of overstimulation.

Guarana

Guarana is a South American plant that contains about 4x the amount of caffeine as the coffee plant. Guarana contains another stimulant as well, theobromine, which acts the same as caffeine. In addition, guarana contains taurine, another important ingredient in Rockstar®’s recipe.

Taurine

Taurine is an amino acid that is produced by the body but could often use a bit of help from your diet to reap its benefits. Taurine plays a role in several bodily systems, including:

  • Muscle function
  • Vision
  • Heart health
  • Kidney function
  • Immune function
  • Antioxidant activity

Note that taurine does interact with certain medications, so you should consult with a doctor before picking up anything with taurine in it. As well, it’s recommended that people who are pregnant or breastfeeding should avoid taurine.

B vitamins

A B vitamin complex rounds out Rockstar®’s energy-boosting ingredients. B vitamins are found in nearly every energy drink, because they support nerve health, muscle health, energy production, cognitive health, and more.

A typical can of Rockstar® has 160mg of caffeine and 63g of added sugars, which, no offense, isn’t exactly a nice thing to do to your body. 63g of sugar is 127% of the daily maximum recommended sugar intake. And 160mg of caffeine all at once can cause jitters, cold sweats, angst, headaches, and more.

Now, Rockstar® does have 0 cal and 0 sugar options that contain the same level of caffeine. However, it is also important to note that these options contain artificial sweeteners, including sucralose and acesulfame, which are dubious, health-wise.

MTE leaves out the added sugar and cuts the caffeine to 50mg, just for that little fuse we need to light up the real energy boosters in our 13-ingredient formulation, which include:

Ashwagandha

Ashwagandha has been a staple in traditional medicine for at least 5000 years – more like 6000, really. This adaptogenic herb has a lot to offer. Traditionally, it’s been used for many things, and that includes vitality, endurance and strength. Biologically, active compounds in ashwagandha:

  • Reduce the effects of stress by controlling levels of pro-stress hormones and the harmful proteins produced by stress responses
  • Reduce emotional reactivity by lowering activity in the HPA axis
  • Optimize the body’s use of oxygen and your VO2 Max

Ashwagandha also supports cognition – it has regenerative properties on neurons and soft tissues, which, coupled with stress-reducing effects, supports longevity of brain health.

And don’t worry – there’s science to back up all these claims.

Eleuthero

Also called Siberian ginseng, this ginseng cousin has recorded use dating back 2000+ years. In modern times, it was “rediscovered” by the Russians. They wanted a super-soldier supplement that improved cognition, reduced fatigue and improved strength and stamina, and they saw the ginseng shortage coming. In clinical settings, eleuthero supplements have:

  • Improved cognitive and athletic performance under stressful conditions
  • Improved VO2 Max, work time and endurance in athletes
  • Improved subjective work performance and quality of life measures

GABA

GABA is a really cool nootropic with multiple identities. An amino acid, hormone, neurotransmitter, too, GABA is the body’s main calm-down chemical. It tells an overexcited nervous system to stop stressing out your central nervous systems with a bunch of unnecessary signals.

GABA’s vibe is talk less; do more, because its calming effects are not associated with drowsiness. This allows people do perform better on cognitive tasks and contributes to a wakeful energy that isn’t overwhelming or stressful.

Holy Basil

Another 6000-year-old foundation of Ayurveda is holy basil, or tulsi. It’s an adaptogen, like ashwagandha, and contains a bunch of bioactive phytochemicals that offer multiple benefits. It’s traditionally been used for everything from immunity tonics for bronchitis to an ointment for eczema.

We include holy basil in our formulation because there is clinical evidence to support that the phytochemicals in this adaptogen ca support:

  • Improved attention and willingness to adapt
  • Reduced psychological effects of stress
  • Treatment for metabolic syndrome and diabetes
  • Liver, heart and nervous system health
  • Reduced inflammation
  • Increased immunity

Because we’re supporting the production of neurotransmitters of several types: calming, energizing, focus-promoting, mood-boosting – MTE’s mix of bioactive greens helps your body create its own energy and promote the healthy processes that prevent fatigue and fogginess.

As well, because our energy-multiplying formulation doesn’t rely on caffeine or caffeine-like substances, you don’t get the high-low experience, the tachycardia, or the tolerance typical of caffeine-and-sugar-packed energy drinks.
